Prerequisites to Service (Part 3) – Discerning the Will of God

If we desire to know the will of God, we must follow the pattern of God.  In this sermon, Pastor Daniel Kriss brings us Part 3 of our mini-series on Prerequisites to Service, and began by expounding for us from Romans 12:1-2 the Holy Spirit’s intentional order of enabling us to discern the will of God: consecration-separation-transformation-illumination.  We then considered three aspects of the definition of the “will of God”, revealing God’s ultimate

A Glossary of Glorious Terms (Part 6: Redemption)

Redemption is the sixth glorious concept in our communion series on gospel terms, and what an incredible reality this is in the life of the believer!  In this sermon, Pastor Daniel Kriss begins by providing us with a succinct definition of the word “redemption”, then delves into the often-avoided topic of sin and the depravity of man to help us see the absolute necessity of redemption.  The question is asked and answered in the third point – “How did this redempt

Prerequisites to Service (Part 2.2)

Part Two then moved onto the means by which we can guard against conformity to the world – the renewal of our minds with the truth. As our minds are the battle ground for the truth, it is so necessary to ensure that our minds are being saturated with the Word of God. Pastor Daniel provides six practical ways for us to make that a reality in our own lives - and therefore being cleansed, refreshed, and renewed as God uses His Word to do His transforming work in our lives.

Prerequisites to Service (Part 2.1)

Our little mini-series continues with a two-part sermon from Pastor Daniel Kriss expositing the hard-hitting commands contained in Romans 12:2 - opposing cultural conformity and renewing the mind.  Part One expounds the issue of conforming to our culture, discusses the definition of "this world", and gives examples of God-opposed cultural thinking which are running rampant in our modern society.  Pastor Daniel also provided us with some very practical wisdom to help us to guard against this conformity in our own day-to-day Christian lives.

Prerequisites to Service (Part 1)

Continuing our theme of service for the Lord, Pastor Daniel Kriss brings us this sermon entitled “Prerequisites to Service”.  Beginning by noting that God’s pattern is salvation – surrender – service, and asking the crucial question “What am I to BE, before I proceed to DO?”, Daniel then draws our attention to four areas as set out in Romans 12:1 – we must be a member of God’s family, we must be motivated by the mercies of God, we must be living in active, c

Serving the Lord with Gladness

Knowing where God wants you to be and what you ought to be doing is essential to serving with joy.  Having spent a large portion of time in 2016 understanding the identity and structure of the church, we now in 2017 are seeking to learn more about what our roles, individually and corporately, look like in active service for God.  Our theme verse was introduced by Pastor Daniel in this sermon – Psalm 100:2 “Serve the LORD with gladness!”.  Beginning with a working definition of the wor

A Study in Colossians: Part 4

Once hostile enemies of God, now totally reconciled to God. Our preacher Lucas Macdonald continues his series in the book of Colossians, bringing us Part 4 from chapter 1 verses 21-23. Beginning with a review of the previous 3 instalments in the series, Lucas then draws out some incredible truths relating to our reconciliation with God, our inability to help ourselves, and our new status of holy before God.  The exhortation from Paul to continue steadfast in our faith, as we have been taught, is the challenge to take away from this sermon rich in gospel-soaked truth.

A Glossary of Glorious Terms (Part 5: Propitiation)

Propitiation is perhaps not a term we hear a lot these days. But it is, however, one of the grand facets of the diamond that is the gospel of Jesus Christ.  In this communion sermon, Pastor Daniel Kriss takes this glorious term and unpacks for us the definition, explains the history of its usage, and highlights the key differences between pagan propitiation and Biblical propitiation. These formed the foundation from which he then expounds six key attributes of this amazing truth, that there has been propitiation made by Christ on our behalf, both in appeasing the Father's wrath, and in reconciliation of our sinful selves with a righteous and holy God!
