The ancient city of Thyatira in Revelation chapter 2 was the smallest of the seven addressed in this chapter, yet the church situated there received the longest letter from Jesus Christ.  In our sermon today, continuing our series entitled “Correspondence from Christ”, Pastor Daniel broke down this letter to the “tolerant” church of Thyatira.  While they received commendation from Christ in relation to their love, faith, service, perseverance and growth – all areas in which we ought to evaluate our own lives – there was a serious area in which they were grieving Christ: their tolerance of and complacency in addressing known sin. We also see the long-suffering grace of Christ, and finally the divine judgement which was due. Christ’s command to this church was to “just keep going”, leaving them with the amazing promise that as overcomers/conquerors, they would eventually gain Christ Himself. The call at the end of this letter (as in each of the seven letters) is to hear what the Spirit is saying – how imperative it is also for us to listen for and obey the impulses of the Spirit as He leads our church.
