The church in the ancient, wealthy city of Sardis is the fifth recipient of a letter from Jesus Christ as recorded in Revelation. In this sermon continuing our series entitled “Correspondence from Christ”, Pastor Daniel Kriss draws our attention firstly to the unusual designation of Christ as the One who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. Moving on to the concerns which Christ had for this church of their current status of being alive, but in reality being spiritually dead, the lesson for us here was to beware of hypocritical, stagnant, life-less Christianity. Jesus’ command was to “wake up” and strengthen what spiritual graces remained in their assembly, to obey the truth they knew, and to repent and walk in it. Finally, three precious promises were given to the conquerors at Sardis – promises of hope to those who would press on, walking in the Spirit and in truth.
